Starting with innovative services
Chaoma is one of the earliest enterprises involved in the civil aircraft carbon brake disc repair projects, which started the exploratory study of civil aircraft carbon brake discs maintenance technologies early in 1994. On the basis of the traditional “2-in-1” maintenance solutions abroad, in order to improve the reliability and safety of carbon brake discs maintenance, Chaoma took the lead in the world to develop the “bond” and “overall bond” methods for the maintenance of charcoal brakes, which are mainly featured by: 1. Self-produced carbon/carbon composites are used to repair damaged spline teeth of stator disc carbon; 2. Pyrolytic carbon is used to bond the dynamic and static plates in situ, to improve the integrity.
In early 1997, under the supervision and guidance of the review group of Northwest Civil Aviation Authority, Chaoma’s recovery carbon brake disc passed the ground power verification test; the flight test was completed by the end of the year.
In 1998, Chaoma obtained the maintenance license for the carbon brake discs of B757-200 aircrafts, and obtained maintenance licenses for a total of seven models of carbon brake discs.
Success comes from independent R&D
Carbon brake discs for Boeing 757-200 (B757-200) aircrafts are a representative product of Chaoma, which is researched and developed entirely depending on their own technological strength, with independent intellectual property rights.
The carbon brake discs for B757-200 aircraft produced by Chaoma obtained the Parts Manufacturer Approval (ID: PMA0044) issued by China Civil Aviation Administration in May 2004.
During the same period, the carbon brake discs were officially installed and put into use in the Southwest branch of Air China, and was used on B757-200 aircraft of Shanghai Airlines Co., Ltd. in February 2005. Currently, this model of carbon/carbon brake discs has been successfully applied in many domestic routes, and has been tested by the practical applications at highlands airport. The company is the only designated supplier of Air China Southwest Company and (the former) Shanghai Airlines Co., Ltd.

(Carbon/carbon brake discs before and during tests)

In order to verify the quality stability consistency of carbon brake discs, and accumulate more experience, Chaoma carried out twice ground power simulation tests respectively in February 2005 and August 2006. The results showed that the curve shape and the friction coefficient of the wearing limit parts of Chaoma carbon brake discs are basically the same as the original new products, indicating that Chaoma carbon brake discs for B757-200 aircraft have stable friction property and excellent performance throughout the life cycle.

Since it obtained the license, Chaoma has established a quality file for each carbon brake disc, to maintain detailed tracking record for raw materials, including the original states, processes, and quality conditions, so that each brake disc is traceable.
Thanks to the long-term follow-up and examination of Chaoma carbon brake discs for B757-200 aircrafts as well as their continuous improvement for the feedback, the stability and consistency of the carbon brake discs for installed aircrafts has won the favor of users, and the company obtained the only domestic certificate for manufacturer of carbon brake discs for B757-200 aircrafts and maintenance supplier certificate issued by Air China; in 2006, it became the only procurement supplier of carbon brake discs for B757-200 aircrafts of Shanghai Airlines Co., Ltd. by defeating the former foreign manufacturer of carbon brake discs and the domestic manufacturer of carbon brake disc PMA parts.
Chaoma’s carbon brake discs for B757-200 aircrafts has been listed as a project in the National Torch Program, and won the first prize for Science and Technology Progress in Shaanxi, special prize for national defense scientific and technological progress in Shaanxi Province, national key new product, top-ten brand in Shaanxi Province, and other honors.
